Nghi Son economic zone in Thanh Hoa province was established in 2006 by the Prime Minister with an area of 18,611.8 ha. Nghi Son Economic Zone (EZ) is located in 12 southern communes of Tinh Gia district. In 2015, it continued to be adjusted and expanded to 106,000ha. Including: 66.498ha of mainland and islands, 39,502ha of water surface. The exploitation period is until 2076. Nghi Son EZ is located in the south of Thanh Hoa province. Including the entire area of Tinh Gia district (now Nghi Son town) and 6 communes of Nong Cong and Nhu Thanh districts. Nghi Son EZ is invested and managed by the management board of Nghi Son economic zone.
By the end of 2020, Nghi Son EZ and Thanh Hoa industrial zones have attracted 249 domestic and foreign investment projects. Total registered investment capital is more than 47,400 billion VND and 3.3 billion USD. Since then, the total value of industrial production - trade and service has been estimated at 609,000 billion VND (38.1% higher than the plan); total export value reached 9,063 million USD (46.9 percent higher than the plan).
Nghi Son EZ is located on the North-South exchange axis of the country. The EZ is the bridge connecting the North with the Central region, the Northwest and the South, with the markets of Southern Laos and Northeast Thailand. The goal of construction is to become a multi-sector, multi-field general economic zone. The focus is on heavy industry and basic industry, construction of urban areas, tourist areas... in association with the construction and efficient exploitation of Nghi Son seaport.

Nghi Son Port
Total area 741.2ha, including: inland waterway wharf - Northeast area 6.2ha; 735ha wharf. There are general, container and specialized berths. Construction of a transit station combined with a dry port and a 125ha logistics center.
Capable of receiving ships up to 70,000DWT or more, handling capacity of hundreds of millions of tons/year.
The port has been put into operation: 2 anchorages to receive ships over 80,000DWWT, 2 anchorages serving Nghi Son 2 thermal power plant to receive ships up to 210,000DWT.
Industrial parks with a total area of 9,057.9 ha. After 2035, an additional 3,000ha of industrial land will be developed to the northwest along the road from Tho Xuan airport to Nghi Son economic zone.

Seaport
Nghi Son port has been built and is capable of receiving ships with a tonnage of up to 70,000DWT. The current loading and unloading capacity is 30 million tons/year. In addition, there are dozens of general ports, specialized berths and container berths with logistics systems. All are planned in sync with the wharf area being built by investors.
Air
Tho Xuan airport is 60km from Nghi Son EZ. Currently, it has been operating domestic flights. This airport has also been planned to become an international airport by 2030.

Currently, there are 260,000 people in Nghi Son EZ, of which 148,000 are of working age.

Process rubbish
Waste treatment system of the EZ by Nghi Son Environmental Joint Stock Company. This system is considered as one of the modern waste treatment plants in the North today. The factory's automatic waste treatment system is imported from the United States, Japan, and the Federal Republic of Germany. Treatment capacity to thoroughly burn 80 tons of domestic waste and 200 tons of domestic waste/day and night. Phase I has now been completed, with a capacity of 250 tons/day.
Wastewater treatment
Build 6 wastewater treatment stations, total amount of wastewater generated in each phase. By 2015 it is 58,806m3/day. By 2025 about 85,140m3/day. Second cleaning at the centralized wastewater treatment station of the Industrial Park. Wastewater must meet standard B according to TCVN 5945- 2005 before being discharged to the outside environment.
Communication systems
Nghi Son Economic Zone with 1,907km of telecommunications cables, 38 fixed telephone switching stations, 170 broadband Internet access stations… can meet operational needs. It is expected that by 2025, Nghi Son EZ will reach 115,000 subscribers, reaching a subscriber density of 50 devices/100 people.
