The Ministry of Transport has just issued a document requesting units to implement work related to the use of ash and slag materials of thermal power plants in traffic works.

Selection of suitable traffic works to use ash and slag

Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport requires the project management boards of the Ministry of Transport, the investor and the project implementing agency to further promote the research and selection of suitable work items to use ash materials. , slag from thermal power plants, report implementation results to the Ministry of Transport before December 15.

The Institute of Transport Science and Technology assumes the prime responsibility for developing and promulgating basic standards on the use of ash and slag from coal-fired thermal power plants in the construction of rural road pavement foundations.

The Directorate for Roads of Vietnam, the Institute of Transport Science and Technology, the University of Transport Technology continue to proactively propose research tasks to apply ash, slag, and gypsum as raw materials in construction projects. transportation, replacing natural materials in the case of completely using ash and slag, or using ash and slag in combination with soil and/or other materials and additives in the S&T plan for 2022, 2023 and other next year.

At the same time, it is proposed to develop technical regulations, technical guidelines or regulations when using ordinary industrial solid waste as raw materials and materials in traffic works, ensuring compliance with technical regulations. environmental engineering.

The Institute of Transport Science and Technology and the Institute of Transport Strategy and Development actively cooperated with the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) in implementing a pilot project using ash and slag at the request of the group; report to the Ministry of Transport on the results of coordination with EVN in the development of standards and norms related to the use of ash and slag in coal-fired thermal power plants before December 15, 2022.

The Department of Construction Management and Quality of Traffic Works assumes the prime responsibility for advising, reviewing and supplementing norms and unit prices related to construction items of traffic works using thermoelectric ash and slag materials. coal burning, report the results to the Ministry of Transport before December 15.

The Department of Science and Technology shall prioritize the implementation of tasks of researching and applying ash, slag and gypsum materials as raw materials in traffic works, replacing natural materials; assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with units under the Ministry of Construction and EVN to implement research programs and pilot projects as a basis for reviewing, updating and perfecting the system of standards and relevant technical regulations. related to the use of ash, slag and gypsum materials in traffic construction.

Units shall synthesize reports of agencies and units on implementation results to advise on documents to report to the Government on the study and use of ash, slag and gypsum as raw materials in traffic works before the date 31.12.

Good quality, low price

In recent years, over-exploitation of sand has led to many environmental consequences. Provinces in the upstream of the Mekong Delta such as An Giang, Dong Thap... with the advantage of abundant sand resources, which are considered "gold mines", now also face the risk of depletion.

Particularly for traffic works, in the past 2 years, the price of construction materials, especially the price of sand, has continuously skyrocketed, "dancing" causing many constructions to be in a difficult position. Faced with the above situation, many businesses and construction contractors have chosen ash and slag as construction and leveling materials.

A representative of Thuan Hoa Production, Trade and Service Co., Ltd., which specializes in leveling for projects, said that the enterprise has surveyed many places and at many works, showing that the quality of leveling is from ash and slag. not inferior to sand leveling. Worth mentioning, each block of ash and slag when leveling is only 2/3 of the sand block, saving considerable costs.

According to economic expert Ngo Tri Long, using ash, slag and waste rock to level the highway solves both goals of minimizing adverse impacts on the environment, overcoming material scarcity and meeting green growth target as the Government has oriented.
