Data from the General Department of Customs said that in February, the export volume of iron and steel products reached 796,000 tons with a value of about 602 million USD, up 18.5% in volume and 31.8% in value over the previous month. there.
Thus, after the first 2 months of the year, Vietnam exported 1.43 million tons of iron and steel with a value of 1.03 billion USD. Although it increased by 8.1% in volume, it decreased by 25.7% in value over the same period last year.
During this period, the export of iron and steel of all kinds concentrated mainly in markets such as ASEAN (539,000 tons, down 4%), the US (91,000 tons, down 47%), South Korea (48,900 tons, down 46%). ).
However, some markets unexpectedly recorded a sudden increase in exports, such as the EU (315,000 tons, up 40%), India (133,000 tons, 30 times higher than 4,500 tons in 2022). .
In February alone, Vietnam exported 40,729 tons of iron and steel to Turkey while the same period last year recorded only 165 tons. This means that the amount of iron and steel exports to this market has increased 246 times. Generally, in the first two months of the year, it reached 104,000 tons, up 512 times over the same period.
According to data from Steel Online, some steel production enterprises such as Hoa Phat, Viet Italy, Viet Duc raised 150,000-160,000 VND/ton for D10 CB300 rebar, to about 15.9-16 million VND. /ton from March 21.
On the other hand, some enterprises such as Southern Steel, Pomina, Thai Nguyen Steel, Vina Kyoei... have yet to make any move to adjust prices.
From the beginning of 2023 until now, the price of D10 CB300 rebar has 5 times of adjustment depending on the brand. After consecutive price increases, the steel price level is returning to the period of July-August 2022. This level is much higher than the average of 12.5 million VND/ton before the strong increase in the period of May-May, 2022.
Explaining this situation, steel enterprises said that prices increased due to scarce input materials when many factories stopped producing billet in some furnaces from the previous year. In addition, factories have to pay orders signed during the year, causing steel prices to increase locally due to low supply.
The increase in input materials also caused domestic factories to raise their selling prices to reduce losses. Data from the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) shows that coke prices tend to increase again since November 2022. Scrap steel at the beginning of March increased by 13 USD a tonne over the previous month. HRC hot rolled steel also increased by 24 USD.
According to Steel Online, Hoa Phat's products such as CB240 coil from February 23 remained at VND 15,960/kg; Rebar D10 CB300 increased by 150 VND to 15,990 VND/kg. Central region CB240 steel coil stabilized at 15,880 VND/kg; Rebar D10 CB300 increased by 160 VND to 15,890 VND/kg. Southern region CB240 steel coil at 15,980 VND/kg; Rebar D10 CB300 increased by 150 VND to 16,030 VND/kg.

Viet Sing Steel increased the price of D10 CB300 rebar by 160 VND to 15,990 VND/kg; CB240 steel coil kept price 15,830 VND/kg.
Rebar D10 CB300 of Viet Duc Steel increased by 150 VND to 15,960 VND/kg; CB240 coil is currently priced at VND 15,710/kg. In the Central region, rebar D10 CB300 increased by 150 VND to 16,210 VND/kg; CB240 coil line was flat at 16,060 VND/kg.
VAS Steel's D10 CB300 rebar increased by 150 VND to 15,830 VND/kg; CB240 coil line kept at 15,680 VND/kg. In the South, CB240 coils increased by 150 VND to 15,730 VND/kg; D10 CB300 rebar is currently priced at 15,830 VND/kg.
Viet Nhat Steel increased the price of D10 CB300 rebar to VND 1,400/kg; CB240 coil line is still at VND 15,880/kg.
