Ba Ria - Vung Tau is a coastal province in the Southeast region of Vietnam, situated in the southern key economic region. It borders Đong Nai Province to the north, Ho Chi Minh City to the west, Bình Thuận Province to the east, and the East Sea to the south.
Since the province's establishment until May 1, 2012, Vung Tau City was the largest urban area and a prominent seaside tourist city. From May 2, 2012, the provincial capital was moved to Bà Rịa City. Currently, Ba Ria - Vung Tau is the only province in the country where the provincial capital is not the largest urban area, and it is also the only province with two provincial cities in the southern region.

The Vung Tau Peninsula is long and narrow, with an area of 82.86 km² and an average elevation of 3-4 meters above sea level. The islands include the Con Lon Archipelago and Long Son Island. The hilly midlands are located in the north and northeast, mainly in Tan Thanh, Chau Đuc, and Xuyen Moc districts.
The coastal plain valleys include parts of Tan Thanh, Long Đien, Ba Ria, and Đat Đo districts. This area features rice paddies interspersed with low hills and sparse forests along the coastline. The province's continental shelf covers over 100,000 km².
Additionally, the province is investing in the construction of several key roads such as 991B, Phuoc Hoà - Cai Mep Road, the road to Long Son Petrochemical Industrial Zone, Long Son - Cai Mep Road, the road behind My Xuan Port, the extended DT991 Road, the DT992 Road from National Highway 51 to Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 4, and the coastal road (provincial road 994) from Vung Tàu to Binh Chau. These roads will connect important economic areas of the province with highways, national roads, and the national transportation network.
To maximize the advantages and potential, and drive the sustainable development of its four economic pillars (industry, seaports, tourism, and high-tech agriculture), Ba Ria - Vung Tau continues to attract selective investments into large-scale projects that utilize modern technology, have high added value, are not labor-intensive, and are environmentally friendly. The province also aims to develop the private economic sector, targeting the formation of local enterprises capable of partnering and joint-venturing with large economic groups.
